Wright's Basketball Scouting Nor Cal Tip Off Classic Results
I spent my Saturday (11/25) scouting and evaluating players from the Nor Cal region at the Eleventh Annual Nor-Cal Tip Off Classic held at Newark Memorial High School hosted by Gerry Freitas. I have seen many of the players with their AAU teams, so this was an opportunity to evaluate them with their respective high school teams. This event was the Wright's Basketball Scouting 2017-2018 season opener for high school teams in Northern California.
The season is just beginning, so no matter how teams performed on Saturday, I can say that most will be in contention for league titles and playoffs at the end.
Las Lomas HS defeated the St. Ignatius Wildcats 60-43. Las Lomas was led by Nathan Robinson 6'4 senior guard (transfer from Sacred Heart Cathedral) 23 points, 7 assists and Devine Payne a 6'2 senior guard, Robert Prince 6'0 senior guard also contributed to the Knights' victory. St. Igantius top players were Darriun Trammell 6'0 senior guard and Neal Begovich 6'7 junior forward.
The Berkeley yellowjackets defeated the Dublin Gaels 71-68 in O.T. This was a fun game to watch. Both teams have a good guard play, they're fast , they're quick, and they finish. For Berkeley, Ben Baker 6'3 senior guard led his team with 24 points. Kyree Brown 6'0 senior guard, lead ball handler with 14 points. Jamir Thomas 6'0 Sophomore played solid defense and added 10 points. Avery Burt 6'4 senior, also a key contributor.
The Lincoln Trojans defeated the Newark Memorial Cougars 77-57. Lincoln was led by Cal recruit & signee Andre Kelly 6'8 senior. Newarks Jamal Frenchwood 6'3 senior forward led Newark in contribution.
The San Joaquin Memorial Panthers defeated the Moreau Catholic Mariners 78-67. This was also a fun game to watch. San Joaquin Memorial has Jalen Green 6'6 Sophomore guard is one of the top sophomores in the country, no doubt about it, but the Panthers were led by Dameane Douglas 6'6 senior forward with 36 points. Green had 26 points and displayed his all around talents that make him one of the top players. Lunden Taylor 6'3 senior guard did a good job of running the offense. Justin Huelskamp 6'4 junior guard didn't score much but played a solid game. I want to mention Preston Kilbert 5'10 freshman guard , I thought he handled himself well on the big stage. Moreau's Armil Field 6'5 junior forward led his team with 16 points, he also made key 3-point shots, Jano Ison 5'10 Sophomore had 11 points, and Leonard Turner 6'5 junior chipped in with 14 points. Moreau is a team to keep an eye on.
The Folsom Bulldogs defeated the St.Joseph's-Notre Dame Pilots 75-49. Bulldog standouts were Mason Forbes 6'9 senior forward (Harvard commit) and Jayce McCain 6'2 senior guard. Keeland Good 6'5 junior forward and Cameron Ba 6'3 senior guard were key contributors for St Joes.
The Ranch Christian Eagles defeated the Capital Christian Cougars 84-63. One of two Southern California teams at this event. I hope more will come in the future. Isaiah Mobley 6'9 junior wing/forward, I had Mobley with 30 points, the younger brother, Evan Mobley 6'10 sophomore wing/forward had 20 points. Capital Christian's Zach Chappell 6'3 senior guard had 23 points, Rick Barros 6'5 guard chipped in with 12 points and Trey Jones 5'10 junior got off to a hot start with four 3-point shots early, he finished with 14 points for the Cougars.

Naseem Gaskin 6'4 senior guard (Utah commit) led O'Dowd with 20 points, Elijah Hardy 6'0 senior guard (Washington commit) had 12 points, Will Chavarin 6'3 junior guard 9 points, Ross Williams 5'9 guard 9 points. Fairfax's Jamal Hartwell Jr. 5'11 senior guard led his team with 22 points and Ethan Anderson 6'1 junior guard had 10 points.
