Wright's Basketball Scouting Report Nor Cal Tip Off Classic

The Twelfth Annual Nor Cal Tip Off Classic took place November 24, 2018 at Newark Memorial High School in Newark Ca. This annual event kicks off high school basketball in Northern California. Most of these teams are projected to have seasons that will carry them into the post season. There were 8 games here is a brief rundown on the games.

Sacred Heart Cathedral defeated Stuart Hall 57-48. The Irish proved to be the more scrappy team getting a good performance from 6'8 2020 Oscar Cheng who improved his game over the summer, led the Irish with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Ilijah Flowers a 6'1 senior guard chipped in with 11 pts and 13 rebs and 6' senior Cedrick Reed added 10 pts, 5 rebs, 3 stls. Stuart Hall's 6'6 2021 Nigel Burris was saddled with foul trouble throughout the game scored 13 pts and grabbed 13 rebs. Miles Amos the feisty 6' senior pt guard had 16 pts and 7 rebs.

James Logan defeated Campolindo 69-64. Logan has a good starting five. Senior Guard 6'0 Brett Thompson scored 20 pts and grabbed 4 rebs and 5'10 junior Brah'jon Thompson contributed 12 pts 5 rebs and 3 stls. Logan guards put a lot of pressure on opposing guards with their aggressive style of play. Senior wing 6'5 Gabe Hawkins 20pts 7rebs looks ready to have a good season. Campolindo Junior guard 6'3 Carter Mahaney looks to be in mid season form handling the pressure of Logan guards, running the offense and scoring 22 pts. 6'3 senior David Ahazie scored 17 pts and freshman Aidan Mahaney added 16 pts in his varsity debut.

Dublin defeated Archbishop 73-69. This Geals team is deep, they have length, athleticism, and speed. They have players who can get to the basket, they have players who can knock down 3 pt shots with consistency. 6'2 Junior Elijah Alonso 8/10 shooting, 5/6 from the 3. He didn't miss in the first half finished with 24 pts. Jaden Saunders a 5'9 junior floor leader contributed 15 pts. Anthony Roy 6'3 junior wing made solid contributions off the bench with 11 pts and 8 rebs, Roy is a player to watch. Riordan has 6'3 junior JeLani' Clark, I think he's one of the top guards in Nor Cal. He scored 31 pts, he has the ability to attack the rim, convert and draw fouls consistenly. Riiny Riiny a 6'9 junior surprised with his ability to knock down 3 pt shots 2/3, finished with 12 pts.

Newark Memorial defeated St.Patrick - St. Vincent 77-64. This Newark team will surprise some teams this year. Isaiah Cabrera a 5'11 senior guard scored 29 pts. 6'3 senior Jeylen Slanton played a solid all around floor game scored 19 pts with 7 rebs, and 2021 5'9 Chance Carlton did a good job running the offense for this team. St. Pats 6'10 2020 Dishon Jackson scored 20 pts and added 18 rebs, while Jalen Scott a 6'1 junior scored in a variety of ways to get to 30 pts for this team.

Moeau Catholic defeated Capital Christian 60-46. Moreau was in control from beginning to end. 5'11 senior Glen Byrd 15 pts, 6'6 senior wing Leonard Turner contributed 15 pts and 4 rebs. 6'6 senior Amil Fields dropped in 11pts. Capital Christian Preston Hall a 6'3 senior scored 13 pts, while 6'4 2020 Evan Johnson chipped in with 11pts.

Bishop O'Dowd defeated Grant (Sacramento). Bishop O'Dowd got a surprise performance from 6'5 junior Monty Bowser who came off the bench to score 21 pts and grabbed 13 rebs. Brenden Patrick a 6'1 senior guard scored 17 pts and 6'3 senior Will Chavarin chipped in with 11 pts and 6 rebs. Grants 6'7 senior wing David Jones scored 14 pts to go with 9 rebs, while 6'7 senior wing Deejuan Pruit contributed 11 pts and 5 rebs despite being in foul trouble.

Sheldon defeated St. Bernard 89-66. Sheldon is the #1 team in Nor Cal starting the season. Marcus Bagley III a 6'7 junior guard scored 19 pts and grabbed 7 rebs. Josh Morgan 6'11 senior contributed 11 pts 10 rebs and 3 blks. Marcquis Hargrove a 6'3 junior guard continues to impress me with his play helped out with 14 pts. Saint Bernard a So Cal team was lead by 6'2 senior guard Mook Harris 23 pts. %'11 junior Nick Bowden scored 23 and 6'9 senior Romelle Mansel chipped in with 15 pts.

Santa Margarita defeated Modesto Christian 72-66. Modesto Christian a top Nor Cal team put up spirited battle but came up short against a team that has two DI players. Jake Kyman(UCLA Commit) 25pts 11 rebs. Max Agbonkpolo (USC Commit) 21 pts 5 rebs. 6 assists.

Modesto Christians Devin Day a 6'3 freshman made his varsity debut coming off the bench and contributing 12 pts that helped get his team back into the game. Earv Knox 6' senior who normally starts came off the bench to score 11 pts and 5 asissts. 6' junior guard Baljot Sahi went 4/4 from three and fueled a comeback finished with 14 pts.
