Wright's Basketball Scouting Report The 2019 MC Summer Shootout

This past weekend I was at the Moreau Catholic Summer Shootout at Moreau High School in Hayward California. There were 24 teams playing in the varsity division. I spent most of my time evaluating players at the main gym. There's only a few teams I didn't see. Here's my report on the teams and prospects I evaluated.

Salesian defeated San Leandro 57- 49 to win the 2019 MC Summer Shootout. What stood out most to me was the commitment that San Leandro coaching staff has instilled in this team to play good solid defense.. Isaiah Mellor 6'1 prospect plays physical and has good body control, he had several and 1 finishes around the basket. Salesian will contend for the top spot in Nor Cal. Leading the way will be 2020 6'3 guard Shane Bell. He was consistent, and played solid basketball this weekend. 2020 5'10 guards Jaden Lazo and 2022 6'3 Austin Johnson looked liked the knock down shooters you have to account for. San Lorenzo a scrappy team that plays fast, they don't have a lot of size, but that didn't stop them, they're aggressive and they attack. Deonte Hill 2020 5'8 point guard prospect plays with confidence, he can beat you off the dribble and he can shoot the 3. De La Salle is loaded with young prospects. It looks like 2020 sharp shooter 6'2 Jack Beyer is going to have to lead this group of youngsters, that includes 2022 point guard 6'4 Jeremiah Dargan, 2022 6'6 wing Chris Bunch, 6'5 2022 Noah Clifford, and 2021 6'1 guard, Christian Carter. 2020 Justin Anderson 6'1 football/basketball prospect will have an important role for the always competitive Menlo Atherton team. Dougherty Valley has added one of Nor Cals top 2020 prospects 6'2 guard Robbie Beasley to go with, 2020 Donovan Sevilla and 2021, Aiden Sevilla. This team was fun to watch. Las Lomas gave De La Salle a tough game in the playoffs. They're a team you can't take lightly and they will compete. Because there weren't any team rosters available I couldn't identify some of their top players by name. Newark Memorial point guard 5'9, 2021 Chance Carlton will lead this team, with his ability to handle the offense and score multiple ways. St Joes (Alameda) Jaylen Jones 5'10 2020 point guard does a good job handling the offense and 6'6 2020 Cheik Gueye a forward has improved in the post area. Piedmont Hills High School in San Jose went 0-4 the fact that they came to the East Bay and competed is important. Pinnacle (Valley Christian) San Jose went 1-4 played hard upset San Lorenzo. The host Moreau is going through some growing pains this summer that's fine they'll be okay. 2021 6'7 2021 DJ Johnson is a shot blocker, and rebounds, he needs to work on going right. 2021 6'6 Mahada Fallay is another solid body they'll compete.

I'm always looking to expose Northern California players in basketball. Any comments or suggestions. Send me an Email at wrightsbasketball@gmail.com
