The 13th Annual NorCal Tip-Off Classic was held at Newark Memorial High School in Newark CA. Seven games were played. The first game started at 11:00 AM and the last game started approximately 8:30 PM.
Moreau Catholic (Hayward) 58 vs St Patrick-St vincent (Vallejo) 93.
Moreau got off to a decent start ending the first qtr 23-21. After that it was all St. Patricks St - St. Vincents trio of, Jalen Scott. The 6'1 2020 guard was named MVP of the game with his sharp shooting and good overall play, while Dishon Jackson the 6'11 2020 center did most of his damage on the inside scoring 22pts and blocking at least 6 shots, and Jaden Alexander 6'4 2021 the most athletic of the three carried the load in the first half with several high flying alley oop dunks, also finished with 26 points. Moreau was missing 6'7 D'aunte Johnson 2021. Trey Knight the 5'11 2022 guard led with 15 points, while Johnathan Langford 5'11, and Mahda Fallay 6'6 both in the class of 2021, scored 12 and 8 points respectively.
Bishop O'Dowd Dragons 65 Modesto Christian 49
This was a close game throughout until the 4th qtr when O'Dowd's Cal bound Monty Bowser closed the deal with a key block and a big 3 to seal the deal finished with 12 points. Jalen Lewis, the 6'8 Freshman center made his high school debut against Modesto Christians 6'8 senior Alex Merkviladze ( Cal State Northridge) finished the day with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 blocks to be named MVP of game 2. Modesto Christian was missing a few pieces Jaden Phillips and Myles Clayton, were led by 5'10 2020 Michael Pearson 11 points and Oziyah Sellers a 6'3 2022 prospect contributed 10 pts.
Grant Union Pacers 58 Newark Memorial Cougars 55.
I thought this one would turn into another blowout, but Newark is not a team that quits. They fought back to make it a close contest. Grants backcourt duo AJ Mcgee and Cory Yerger combined for 38 points. Newark has a good set of guards also Elijah Carlton and Abdur-Rahman Gilchrest poured in 30 points. Newark looks like a team who'll be fighting for a league title this season.
Archbishop Riordan Crusaders 64 JSerra Catholic Lions 59
Riordan looks like they'll be a top team in NorCal, with the addition of 7'1 Elhadji (Mor) Seck 2022, and Robert Viahola 6'7 2021. The Crusaders have a legitimate presence in the paint on both ends of the court. That should allow the top NorCal backcourt of Je'Lani Clark 6'3 (Nevada) and Bryce Monroe 5'10 (Sam Houston State) to excel. Monroe scored 33 points and was MVP for the game. Clark added 12 in the contest. JSerra has a pretty good backcourt duo in Ian Martinez (Utah) and Justin Williams, who'll get help from 6'11 Francesco Bora, 7'0 Hugo Clarkin (San Jose State) and 2021 6'8 Paxton Burzell.
Clovis West Golden Eagles 62 Winward Wildcats 67
The Eagles were flying high the first half leading the Cats 34-21. Winward made some adjustments and erased the deficit and went on to take the lead by the end of the 3rd qtr, and held on for the close win. 6'4 2021 Cole Anderson a top prospect in California did all he could do went for 38 points top score of the day. Dylan Andrews 6'3 2022 is one to watch he was named MVP in this game scoring 25 points. He and Devin Tillis a 6'6 2020 are both more than capable directing this offense. Tillis chipped in with 21 points and good overall play.
Archbishop Mitty Monarchs 60 Campolindo Cougars 58
Mitty jumped out to the lead and never relinquished it, although Campo did slowly chip away. The Monarchs starting five was 6'3 across the board and they came out hot, with Owen Browne 2020 leading the way with 22 points and was named MVP of the game. Michael Mitchell 2021 (Pepperdine) has improved his point guard skills and defense he dished out 8 assist as he looks to be a pass first point guard. The biggest surprise to me was seeing 6'7 transfer 2021 Nigel Burris making his debut for the Monarchs by coming off the bench. When he figures it out he'll be a big help. Campolindo backcourt of the Mahaney brothers Carter 6'2 (NAU) and Aidan 6'3, 2022 top prospect NorCal 18 points, are trying to repeat as State Champs. They're going to get everybody's best shot.
Dublin Gaels 76 Weston Ranch Cougars 52
Anthony Roy 6'4 2020 wing led the way with 26 points, looks quite confident knocking down deep 3's. Jaden Saunders the 5'9 point guard 2020 will have to be accounted for he chipped in with 17 points and nice passing. Weston Ranch was led by 6'2 Junior Donjae' Lindsey 20 points, and Jordahn Johnson a 6'4 2020 transfer was in foul trouble finished with 8 before fouling out. The Cougars were missing a key player in Gavin Wilburn.
